1st Black Gold Medalist in Gymnastics
It is highly unusual for a gymnast to qualify to be on two Olympic teams, but Dominique Dawes made it onto three! She was part of the Magnificent Seven who in 1996 won the team gymnastics competition at the Olympics. This video shows one of her floor exercises there.
Dominique was the first African-American woman to win an individual Olympic medal in artistic gymnastics, and the first black person of any nationality to win an Olympic gold medal in gymnastics. She has more Olympic team medals than any other gymnast from the USA.
