Jake Dalton was leading in the All-Around competition at the 2014 P&G Gymnastics Championships. You can view his outstanding floor exercise performance here. But then, when it came to the 6th and last rotation, which for him was the pommel horse, he lost his momentum and did not score high enough to maintain his lead. That’s when Sam Mykulak surged ahead to take the lead with his vault. And John Orozco, who had been trailing in third place, got a high enough score in floor exercise to squeeze Jake out of second place and into third.
So it was a dramatic finish to the competition. Sam had come into the competition in 24th place after a difficult first day of competition. John came into the competition in 1st place. The whole thing was dramatic right down to the end, for any one of the three could have taken 1st place in the All Around. All three are amazing competitors who likely will represent the USA at the World Championships.
