Even though the Ukraine women’s gymnastic team did not win a medal at the 1996 Olympics, Lilia Podkopayeva had such solid performances that she became the All-Around champion.  She also won a gold medal in floor exercise and a silver medal on the balance beam.

 

This video shows some of her personal history, including her feelings for her grandmother who had died just a short time before the Olympics.
